As difficulties in the financial markets continues, Legal and General is encouraging families to protect their mortgage and their lifestyle by ensuring that they have the appropriate insurance in place.
Bonnie Burns, Product Marketing Director of Protection commented: "Anyone with a mortgage will be worrying about how much their payments might rise if they have to remortgage this year. This is set against a backdrop of higher council tax, higher food and petrol bills and slow wage increases."
Ms Burns also said that for many families, their finances would unravel if a parent died or became too ill to work and that by not protecting their future income, they were risking their futures.
There are family protection policies available, should the policyholder die or suffer critical illness and they will provide a monthly income for a set term. This is more than the customary life insurance, which is usually taken out to cover a mortgage.
