Aegon Scottish Equitable is introducing a range of improvements to its critical illness protection product.
As from 7th July, the firm will be adding five more illnesses to its policy, taking the total number of conditions covered to 36. The additions are rheumatoid arthritis, encephalitis, open heart surgery, primary pulmonary hypertension and systemic lupus erthematosous . It has also improved three illness definitions to ABI+ which include coma, heart attack and third degree burns .
In addition, Aegon is extending the maximum term on its guaranteed rates from 25 years to 40 years for critical illness cover with no premium increases throughout the lifetime of the policy.
The company is also launching a 24 hour helpline which will offer a variety of services, including counsellors trained to deal with a wide range of issues such as bereavement and to give support to those diagnosed with critical illnesses such as cancer . Issues such as anxiety, depression or stress, family issues and relationship breakdown will also be covered by counsellors and will be free to policyholders and their families.
