Medical insurer Exeter Friendly Society and income protection provider Pioneer Friendly Society have joined forces to form a new dedicated healthcare specialist mutual.
The partnership has been approved by the FSA and members of both organisations voted in favour of the move.
Initially, the expanded group will trade under the existing Exeter and Pioneer brand and be headed by Andy Chapman, former Pioneer chief executive. Roger Cawse, former chief executive of Exeter, will become managing director and be a key member in overseeing the integration of the two businesses .
Mr Chapman said: "We have exciting plans; a vision of unique 'next generation' healthcare products, backed by first class service levels. We believe our combined skills, expertise and experience will make this vision possible.
"Both Pioneer and Exeter are well respected within their fields of expertise, we are confident we can build on this reputation and make the most of the opportunity that this market represents."
